Sullivan County has always been a popular tourist destination, with access to the Catskill Mountains, parks, water sports, fishing, hunting, skiing and many other outdoor activities. Its two most notable legacies to American pop culture are the resort complexes of the Borscht Belt (with their golf courses, events, and entertainers) and the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is a $100 million outdoor performing arts center and museum located approximately 90 minutes from New York City at the site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival in Bethel, NY. The 15,000 seat outdoor performing arts venue and The Museum at Bethel Woods are set within nearly 2,000 bucolic acres.
Catskill Arts Society is located in the lovely hamlet of Livingston Manor, NY. Our expanded 4,500+ square foot multi-disciplinary facility with lots of natural light, loft-like ceilings, and beautiful natural bamboo flooring includes a designated fine arts gallery, a large multi-purpose space, a pottery studio, a painting studio, two classrooms, and a gift shop. CAS Arts Center is wheel chair accessible.
Lake Superior State Park is a state park located on a small lake, Lake Superior, in the Town of Bethel in Sullivan County, New York. The park offers beaches, picnic tables, fishing and hunting, a boat launch, and a food concession. If you're a golfer then a great close by course is Swan Lake Golf & Country Club.
Windham Mountain Ski Area just off Main Street in the Town of Windham. A group of private investors purchased the land for a ski area in 1960 and Windham Mountain was born. The beauty of Windham Mountain is that it's filled with moments of pure exhilaration for skiers and boarders of every level.
